Heading to Disney World this summer? Listen for what is new, what is changing, and tips to help your summer trip go smoothly.
Openings and changes this summer:
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – We do not know when this will open officially, but expect it to be early this summer.
- Epcot – Lots of changes coming on June 10. The walls are coming down and we will finally have access to the new CommuniCore Hall, CommuniCore Plaza, and the new character greeting location for Mickey & Friends.
- Joy will be moving from Epcot to Hollywood Studios also on June 10
- Beginning this spring on April 7, the Festival of Fantasy parade at Magic Kingdom will move to once per day. The noon parade will be going away and the parade will only be at 3 p.m.
- Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade at Magic Kingdom will move from eventings to mornings also on April 7. You can catch this Cavalcade at 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
Summer-only events:
- Disney Dreams that Soar Drone Show will run in Disney Springs from May 24 – September 2. We are very excited to see this as it’s been many years since Disney has had a Drone show in Orlando.
- Encanto sing-along at Epcot will run this summer from June 10–September 6. Mirabel and Bruno are expected to make special appearances, too in the .
- This year is the Lion King 30th anniversary. From June 10–September 6 you will be able to get special merchandise and treats to celebrate. Plus, Rafiki and Timon will be meeting at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
- This isn’t a new event, but H20 Glow After Hours will be back from May 25-August 31. We especially love this event because you do not need to worry about sunscreen!
TIPS FOR SUMMER TRAVEL
- Crowds tend to be fairly moderate in the summer. The guests who travel in the summer typically are not planners, so you can plan and beat any crowds.
- Prepare for rain. We enjoy using an umbrella because it can be used for sun or rain.
- Take mid day breaks to avoid the heat. You can do this by going back to your room, or hop on an indoor attraction to get out of the rain or heat. Here are some of our favorites:
- Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and Mickey’s PhilharMagic
- Epcot: Living with the Land, Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival, and The Seas Pavilion
- Hollywood Studios: Mickey Shorts Theater and Walt Disney Presents
- Animal Kingdom: Animation Experience at Conservation Station and It’s Tough to be a Bug!
- Attend Disney After Hours – Magic Kingdom has After Hours events through June 27, Hollywood Studios has events through August 29, and Epcot through July 18. These are great options because it is cooler, have less crowds, and you don’t need sunscreen.
