The holidays are a popular time at Walt Disney World, especially Christmas and Halloween. But, what about Easter at Disney World?
Even though it’s not as big of as a celebration in the parks, there are special ways Disney World celebrates Easter.
This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 9 and the following events will only run for a limited time.
Let’s take a look at the different Easter options that are and aren’t happening at Disney World in 2023.
Easter Events at Disney World in 2023
The Grand Cottage

The Grand Cottage debuted at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in 2022. We’re happy to report that it’s back for the 2023 Easter season!
It’s a cute stand for guests to purchase Easter treats (just like they can at Grand Floridian’s gingerbread house during the holidays).

A range of treats are sold here, including, but not limited to: chocolate bunnies, macarons, cupcakes, ad much more.

This year, the treat stand is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through April 9, 2023.

You can find the Grand Cottage in the main lobby area.
Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt

The Egg-stravangaza Scavenger Hunt (say that 5 times fast) is an Easter-themed activity that’s available for a limited-time at Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival.
As of March 13, 2023, the scavenger hunt allows guests to hunt for Disney characters on oversized eggs around World Showcase.

You can purchase a map and stickers for $9.99 (plus tax) at either Disney Traders (in World Showcase plaza; towards Mexico) and World Traveler (at International Gateway), while supplies last.
Once you’re finished, you can bring your completed map to any of the locations listed above, where you’ll receive a prize. This year, guests receive one egg featuring either Robin Hood, Marie, the Genie, Patch, the Cheshire Cat, or Dopey.

Important: You don’t need to complete the Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt in one visit or finish it all to receive the prize.
This is similar to other festival-exclusive scavenger hunts, like Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration scavenger hunt that occurs every year throughout the entirety of Flower and Garden.

Elaborate Chocolate Easter Egg Displays

One of the most impressive Easter celebrations to happen at Disney World are the giant chocolate Easter egg displays.
Pastry chefs create these massive pieces of edible art in the shape of Easter eggs that also feature favorite Disney elements, like characters and park icons.

You can usually find these eggs at a range of Disney Resort hotels. In 2023, they can be seen at Grand Floridian.
This year’s egg designs at Grand Floridian include Encanto, The Princess and the Frog, Marvel, Spaceship Earth, and more!
Better yet, there is an egg in honor of Kevin from Up! Isn’t she adorable?

You can also typically find smaller, yet still very impressive, egg displays at other resorts, too, including the Contemporary.

There are eggs featuring 101 Dalmatians, Orange Bird, “it’s a small world,” TRON, and The Lion King, to name a few.
This year, Beach Club has also an egg display featuring designs inspired by the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.

The Yacht Club lobby has Finding Nemo-inspired eggs.

These eggs are on display for a limited time. Here is the 2023 schedule:
- Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort & Spa: Lobby (March 7-April 9, 2023)
- Disney’s Beach Club Resort: Lobby (March 20-April 9, 2023)
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort: Lobby (March 20-April 9, 2023)
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort: Fourth floor (March 14-April 9, 2023)
Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny Meet and Greet

Meeting the Easter Bunny has been a tradition for many of us since we were little kids and sometimes Disney World continues with that tradition.
This year, you can meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny at the Liberty Square Gazebo, aka the “Bunny Lane Garden,” in Magic Kingdom.
They appear daily at select times between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The adorable bunny couple first started greeting guests on Sunday, April 2 and will continue their meet and greet through Sunday, April 9.
A Disney PhotoPass photographer is also available to take photos.

In the past, guests visiting Magic Kingdom were able to meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny between the Chamber of Commerce and City Hall.
In 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny made a socially-distanced appearance in the hub closest to Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom — and that continued in 2022.

Thankfully, the traditional meet and greet is back and takes place in a perfectly decorated gazebo.
Build Your Own Easter Basket

At the resorts, you can usually build your own Easter basket or even pre-made totes or trays.
Pricing in 2022 was as follows: an initial charge of $7.00 for pre-made baskets and $4.00 for pre-made totes or trays.

For baskets, Cast Members will build it, which includes a traditional Easter basket, grass, wrap, gift tag, and bow.
Whatever you choose to put in the basket is an additional charge for the going price of that item. But, you don’t have to use items purchased at Disney. You can fill the basket with items you’ve purchased elsewhere.

Depending, some resorts may even offer the option of having these Easter baskets delivered by Easter “bunnies” to rooms early Easter Sunday between specific times.
This delivery option is complimentary.

As you can see above, there are also pre-made baskets, but they can be customized.
Some aren’t cheap and range in price. We’ve seen them priced at around $99, $103, $104, and $123. It just depends what you purchase.
Easter Services
You can usually attend a religious service on Easter Sunday at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. In 2022, the service took place at 8 a.m. in the Fantasia Ballroom at the Contemporary.

We’ve also seen services in the past that have taken place in the Fantasia Ballroom at different times, usually at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for Catholic Mass and at 9:15 a.m. for Protestant Service. Reservations and/or registration were never required to attend.
We’re not sure just yet what will occur in 2023. According to Plan Disney, details have not been released yet for Easter 2023 religious services.
“Specific details as to when and where the service will be held won’t be released until closer to the actual day,” Plan Disney stated in December 2022.
In 2022, the Contemporary also had a sign detailing a list of local churches offering in-person services or live-stream offerings. The churches were St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Mary Queen of the Universe Basilica.
Here are the services, dates, and times from 2022 (we’ll update with 2023 details if or when they’re posted):

If there are services being held at the Contemporary and if you’re planning to drive, it’s important to note that if you don’t have a dining reservation or are not a guest staying at the hotel, you might not be able to park at the resort.
You can always utilize Disney World transportation or try rideshare services.
Easter Merchandise

Disney World always has merchandise on sale for most holidays and Easter is no different.
In 2023, there are a range of Easter items available for purchase, including on shopDisney, like Mickey, Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, and Stitch plushes.
You can also purchase these adorable new “Minnie Mouse Reigning Rabbits Ear Headband for Adults,” which are priced at $34.99.

Plus, Dooney & Bourke has a “Disney Rabbits Dooney & Bourke” collection that features a backpack, a satchel bag, and a crossbody bag.

Be sure to browse shopDisney for more Easter merchandise. You can even look at the shops inside the parks to see what’s available.
Easter Pre-Parade

While not a full-fledged parade, Disney World is known for having an Easter-themed cavalcade of sorts that runs about 15 minutes before each showing of the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom.
You can usually see it closer to Easter, like a day before the actual holiday and then on Easter.
In 2022, the pre-parade featured Cast Members in Easter attire, Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny, characters from Fantasia, and operatic chicken Clara Cluck. The song “Easter Parade” and “Spring, Spring, Spring” also played.

However, the Azalea Trail Minds were not part of the parade in 2022 (we don’t know if they will return in 2023).
The Azaela Trail Maids consist of a group of 50 young women chosen every year to serve as “Official Ambassadors” for Mobile, Alabama.
The Azalea Trail Maids wear ruffled pastel dresses and hoop skirts. This has been a 40-year-long-plus tradition at Disney World for the group to march on Easter.
Obviously, the Easter pre-parade didn’t run in 2020 due to the pandemic, along with it being absent in 2021.
Is Easter Busy at Walt Disney World?
Easter is usually one of the busiest times of year to visit Disney World due to it being a holiday and many guests having time off work and school.
Here’s what we predict for Easter crowds in 2023:
- April 1-7 – heavy crowds kick off April
- April 8-12 – peak Easter crowds, with the heaviest days on Easter Weekend
- April 13-16 – very heavy crowds continue due to the combination of people enjoying a long holiday week and guests traveling to WDW for the runDisney Springtime Surprise race

Of course, it’s important to remember that you can’t compare this year’s crowds to previous years. When we predict that crowds will be “heavy,” we mean that on those dates the crowds will be heavier when compared to the rest of the year.
If you’re worried about navigating Easter crowds, check out our Crowd Calendar for more tips. Be sure to also take a look at how Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours — and to see if you’re eligible to take advantage of either or both!
