Disneyland Christmas 2023 Complete Guide

Just like Christmas at Walt Disney World, there are all kinds of Christmas and other seasonal events at Disneyland.

So, what can you expect this year at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure? Go no further, because here is your Disneyland Christmas 2023 complete guide.

Each park’s festivities are very different from one another, which makes the holidays all the more special. There’s more to see, do, and enjoy! We’ve experienced it ourselves and can safely say that the holidays at Disneyland are beyond magical.

Downtown Disney District and each of the official Disneyland Resort hotels also have holiday offerings, including decor, trees, treats, and, of course, a gingerbread house display.

Better yet, the majority of holiday offerings are available to every single guest that has valid theme park admission and a park reservation. That’s right, no need to pay extra.

Now, let’s take a look at all of the ways you can celebrate the 2023 Christmas season at Disneyland.

Disneyland Park

From a parade, to fireworks, to two classic attractions with special overlays, to decor throughout the park and each land, Disneyland Park has a variety of holiday celebrations.

2023 Special Costumes

You’ll be able to catch Minnie, Mickey, Goofy, Donald, and Daisy sporting their holiday best in Town Square at different times throughout the day.

This year, Mickey and friends are wearing “mid-century modern inspired looks” that put “a spin on the classic red and green with the addition of pastel colors and playful prints.” The looks also include snowy sparkle. Mickey and Minnie will even have matching holly brooches crafted by Minnie!

Meet and greet times are not listed in the Disneyland app. They rotate throughout the day.

A Christmas Fantasy Parade

This holiday parade features a range of Disney characters, like Mickey, Minnie, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Anna, Elsa and Olaf, Woody and Buzz, and the Disney Princesses. Of course, Santa Claus is also included as part of the big finale.

Keep in mind that the parade route can vary.

• If there’s only one parade a day, it usually begins on Main Street, U.S.A. and will end by “it’s a small world.”
• If there are two parades a day, the first parade typically begins at “it’s a small world” and ends on Main Street, with the second starting on Main Street and ending at “it’s a small world.”

Believe…In Holiday Magic Fireworks

These fireworks are held nightly and last around 15 minutes over Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle. You can also see them from “it’s a small world” Holiday and on Rivers of America.

There are fireworks, special music, more than 80,000 twinkling lights illuminating the castle, and even some snow on Main Street.

Tip: Plan to see the fireworks every night of your trip, because Disneyland fireworks are known to be cancelled much more often due to weather (specifically wind) compared to fireworks at Disney World.

Haunted Mansion Holiday (opens September 1, 2023)

For both the Halloween and holiday seasons, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas takes over the Haunted Mansion both on the exterior and interior.

Per usual, there’s a massive gingerbread house you’ll see during the ballroom scene that is grand and miraculous.

It’s unclear how long Haunted Mansion Holiday will remain open. Last year, the holiday overlay stuck around through January 29, 2023.

“it’s a small world” Holiday

During the holiday season, “it’s a small world” is transformed with holiday decorations both inside and outside.

When riding the classic attraction, you’ll also be able to hear traditional holiday tunes play, in addition to the “It’s A Small World (After All)”.

And at night, the façade is illuminated with lights and a holiday nighttime projection show that occurs every 30 minutes.

This year, “it’s a small world” Holiday opens November 10, 2023.

Wintertime Enchantment at Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle

Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle is covered in icicles, wreaths, and other décor for the holiday season. Every night, you’ll even be able to see the castle light up with falling snow and music.

Christmas Tree & Lighting

Located on Main Street, U.S.A., you can find the heavily decorated Christmas tree with thousands of ornaments.

There are decorations along Main Street, including storefronts, lampposts, and rooftops with festive wreaths and garland.

Candlelight Processional

Disneyland Park’s Candlelight Processional was held on December 3 and December 4, 2022. Shows both nights were at 5:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. for invited guests, Club 33 Members, and other VIP guests. We anticipate this year’s show will run December 2 and 3, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Regular park guests can see the show from Main Street, but won’t have seats and possibly a poor view, so it’s best to plan accordingly.

Unlike the narrators at Epcot’s Candlelight Processional who are announced well in advance, Disneyland’s narrator usually isn’t known until right before sound check on the first night.

The celebrity narrator in 2022 was Viola Davis.

Santa Claus

In 2022, Santa Claus met in Critter Country at the exit of Splash Mountain (now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure) at Pooh’s Thotful Spot.

Disney California Adventure

Disney California Adventure’s holiday celebrations are so much more than Christmas. There are events that honor a range of holidays, traditions, and cultures, including Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings’ Day.

Disney Festival of Holidays

The festival in Paradise Gardens Park celebrates diverse cultural festivities and traditions with multicultural music, food, merchandise, and entertainment.

Festive Foods Marketplace

The Festive Foods Marketplace features a variety of food and beverage booths celebrating global traditions.

You’ll also want to make sure you purchase a Sip and Savor Passport (Magic Key holders will receive a discount), which offers 8 entitlement tabs that you can redeem for select food and nonalcoholic beverages at participating Festive Foods Marketplace kiosks and dining locations.

In addition to each marketplace, there are also special festival-inspired treats at select restaurants, carts, and kiosks around the park.

A few important details to keep in mind about the Sip and Savor Passport:

• Passes expire January 7, 2024, and entitlement tabs may not be redeemed at any other event.
• Sip and Savor menu items are only tasting-size portions, so similar to Epcot festivals.
• Sip and Savor Pass are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
• Valid admission and a theme park reservation for Disney California Adventure Park are still required.

You can also pick up the Disney Festival of Holidays Tasting Passport at any of the Festive Foods Marketplace kiosks and receive stamps as you work your way around each marketplace kiosk.

After you collect each marketplace stamp, be sure to stop by the Holiday Central Pergola (near The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure) to receive a special completion stamp.

Festive Foods Marketplaces

Disney California Adventure Festival-Inspired Treats

The following items were available during the 2023 festival around Disney California Adventure. We will update with 2023 options when they’re released.

Downtown Disney Friends of the Festival

The following items were available during the 2023 festival at Downtown Disney District. Stay tuned for 2023 offerings.

Disney ¡Viva Navidad!

This is a fun street party featuring Disney characters (like Mickey and Minnie in their “fiesta best”), Mexican folklórico dancers and Mariachis, Brazilian samba dancers and percussionists, and giant mojiganga puppets.

Holiday traditions from Mexico and Brazil are brought to life by cultural performers, authentic Mexican specialities served throughout the holidays at Paradise Garden Grill, and more.

Paradise Gardens is decorated with “colorful papel picado banners, piñatas and a flurry of festive accents.”

There’s also a Disney ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party featuring Donald Duck and his friends during this “ultimate family fiesta,” which includes mariachi and samba musicians, folklórico dancers, and a 12-foot tall mojiganga puppets of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Meet Mirabel from Encanto

You can meet Mirabel from Disney’s new film, Encanto. She makes appearances in Paradise Gardens with a colorful photo location inspired by Mirabel’s family casita.

She’s a popular meet and greet, so plan accordingly.

Mickey’s Happy Holidays

This is a brief street party starring Mickey Mouse and pals as they dance to the magical merry rhythms of the Holiday Toy Drummers.

Be sure to confirm daily showtimes via the Disneyland app or by asking a Cast Member.

Bands

There are a range of bands performing during the festival. Stay tuned for the 2023 schedule. Until then, here’s what guests could watch in 2022.

Holiday Toy Drummers (begin November 11, 2023)

In Paradise Gardens Park, the Holiday Toy Drummers march to their own beat while drumming. There are multiple performances daily and they are not to be missed.

Santa’s Holiday Visit

In 2022, you could meet Santa Claus at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail’s Ahwahnee Camp Circle near the trail’s entrance. The trail is usually transformed into a holiday playground with seasonal games and outdoor activities.

You can also check the Disneyland app or ask a Cast Member for the location and meet and greet times.

Cars Land Holiday Transformation

Similar to Halloween, Cars Land is transformed into a holiday wonderland. Two of the attractions even have themed-overlays.

Buena Vista Street Tree & Holiday Lighting

The 50-foot tree on Buena Vista Street lights up in the plaza outside Elias & Co. daily.

The entirety of the street transforms into a “nostalgic winter wonderland filled with festive sights and friendly folk straight out of 1930s Hollywood.”

Three Kings’ Day

Technically part of Disney ¡Viva Navidad!, Three Kings’ Day is also known as El Día de los Reyes Magos and occurs over select days in January days in Paradise Gardens Park.

This event honors the 3 Wise Men’s visit to the nativity. There’s traditional decorations and a photo opportunity.

There are also usually displays of Magi figures showing the gifts brought to Bethlehem and children’s shoes that were left outside to be filled with toys.

You can typically expect activities for kids, where they color themed-pictures and design their own custom crown.

World of Color – Season of Light

This holiday overlay for the nighttime spectacular showcases seasonal favorites and cherished movie tunes. You can also expect a special story and lighting.

Keep in mind that all reserved viewing areas are standing-room only. And in order to enter the reserved viewing areas, you must do one of the following:

Join virtual queue

Those with a valid ticket and theme park reservation for the same day may be able to join the virtual queue in the Disneyland app beginning at 12 p.m., subject to availability.

Joining the virtual queue for World of Color is not required to view the spectacular, but it is highly recommended.

Additional viewing for each performance is located around Paradise Bay on a first-come, first-served basis.

If the virtual queue reaches capacity, you can visit the Paradise Bay viewing area 30 to 45 minutes before showtime to check in with a Cast Member for walk-up viewing options.

Purchase a dining package or dessert party

You can also book either a World of Color Dining Package or World of Color Dessert Party.

Dining Package

Each dining package includes one voucher for the World of Color preferred viewing area. This viewing area is separate from the dining location.

Dessert Party

The dessert party includes reserved seating in the World of Color preferred viewing area at Paradise Gardens Park, where you can sit at a table with folding chairs or a high-top table with director chairs.

Disneyland Resort Hotels

While there may not be as many activities as the hotels on property, the holidays are very much present.

The Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier (soon to be Disney’s Pixar Place Hotel), and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa each have their own respective:

• Holiday decorations and displays
• Holiday trees “decorated with whimsical flourishes, traditional trimmings, and dashes of pure Disney magic”
• Christmas carolers

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will also have its annual giant gingerbread house and a nearby treat cart.

Holiday Decorations

There’s a range of holiday décor at each Disneyland Resort hotel.

Here’s what we’ve seen in the past:

• Paradise Pier: There’s a holiday tree with an under-the-sea theme featuring blue, green and silver decorations and a garland with shells and starfish.
• Disneyland Hotel: There’s vintage-inspired art on the lobby wall and pool archway.
• Grand Californian: There’s a tree with ornaemnts inspired by the Arts & Crafs movement of early California.

Gingerbread Displays

Grand Californian has a gingerbread replica of the hotel.

It stands 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide, with the structure being created from more than 600 pounds of gingerbread, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant and 1 pound of pixie dust. There are also 25 hidden Mickeys.

The lobby also has sweet treats, including Mickey Christmas Cookies, at the holiday cart.

Santa Claus and Carolers

Guests can meet Santa at each Disneyland Resort hotel from November 10 through December 24, 2023.

Be sure to check the My Disney Experience app for exact locations and daily meet times.

In 2021, we even saw carolers strolling each hotel, but they didn’t return in 2022. Here’s where and when they appeared in 2021:

• Grand Californian: Nov. 25, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022
• Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier: Dec. 15 – 25, 2021

It’s unclear if they will return in 2023. Stay tuned for potential 2023 caroler dates.

Tenaya Stone Spa

The following information is from the 2021-2022 holiday season and we will update if or when we hear more details. It’s unclear if Tenaya Stone Spa is offering similar holiday services this year.

At Grand Californian’s Tenaya Stone Spa, guests of any of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels can purchase a holiday season spa treatment from November 26, 2021 through January 3, 2022.

There’s a Candy Cane Lane Foot Treatment that uses a peppermint cocoa foot soak, scrub and a minty massage to soothe and invigorate feet and legs.

Another option is the Underneath the Tree Signature Massage that uses customized massage techniques combined with the scent of fir, California lemon, wild mint and a touch of eucalyptus for pure relaxation.

Downtown Disney District

Downtown Disney District will have trimmed holiday trees, twinkling lights, and dressed up shop windows. You’ll also be able to spot Christmas carolers throughout the shopping and dining area.

Breakfast with Santa

You can book a breakfast with Santa at Naples Ristorante E Bar in Downtown Disney for the 2023 holiday season.

The 90-minute family-style breakfast is held on multiple dates from November 25 through December 24 between the times of 8:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Pricing is: $110 per adult and $50 per child.

In addition to breakfast and hot cocoa, the experience includes a visit and photo with Santa, a stuffed animal and personalized stocking (for kids 10 and under), take-home treats, carolers, and bottomless mimosas (for those 21 and older). You can book online.

2022 Christmas Entertainment (stay tuned for 2023 details)

You can enjoy a capella carolers throughout the holiday season, including Holiday Harmony Carolers, The Moonrays, and The Sugarplums.

They all perform in the evenings at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m., near the Downtown Disney main stage on the following dates:

Candy Canes

A very limited number of the famous 18-inch long candy canes are usually available for purchase at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure locations.

They are only sold at the following spots during these specific dates (stay tuned for 2023 details):

• Candy Palace at Disneyland: December 4, 6, 1,, 13, 18, 20, 24
• Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure: December 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 25

To purchase the candy canes, you must join a mobile waitlist system due to limited quantities.

Once the mobile waitlist is activated, you can add your name and phone number at the location to receive a text back with a time to return to the location for the opportunity to purchase your candy cane.

Candy canes are not available through Mobile Order.
