Review Disclaimer
When it comes to our reviews and ratings, we thought it would be helpful if you had a better understanding of our personal preferences (what we like and don’t like), along with if there are any dietary restrictions.
Here’s a breakdown of not only who is doing the reviews, but a little more information about what each of us likes and doesn’t like food and drink-wise.
Shannon (Founder)
- Likes: Almost everything
- Dislikes: Beers that taste “stinky,” anything too salty
- Dietary Restrictions: None
Heather (Editor)
- Likes: Strong flavors, anything made out of potatoes, white wines, all beers (especially stouts and wheat beers), doesn’t mind sweet (plain fruit is NOT a dessert. Ever.)
- Dislikes: Things that are too spicy, anything with a bone still in it, cocktails with too much whiskey or tequila (thanks to having too much fun in college), some red wines, most IPAs
- Dietary Restrictions: Shellfish allergy
Felicia (Content Manager)
- Likes: Mezcal, savory drinks, stouts/lagers/wheats/sour beers, vinegar, tart/sour items, chocolate, fresh vegetables and fruits, red meat
- Dislikes: Ciders, sweet drinks, anything milky or creamy, chili powder, cumin, weirded out by textures, mayonnaise, saucy/wet food, cream-filled pastries, artificial fruit flavors, cooked fruits, frozen items (drinks or ice cream)
- Dietary Restrictions: None
Allyson (Managing Writer)
- Likes: Cheesecake (the more sweets, the better), anything mint, hazy IPAs and wheat beers (big beer fan), tofu and most Impossible dishes, mushrooms
- Dislikes: Wine (only likes a few dry ones), cream ales and stouts/porters, super sweet cocktails, floral flavors (lavender, rose), anything almond-flavored, things that are too spicy, olives, meat and seafood (see below)
- Dietary Restrictions: Vegetarian (personal choice)
Photos & Reviews
SPAM Musubi Nigiri
SPAM Musubi Nigiri made with Sushi Rice, Teriyaki-Glazed SPAM, Spicy Mayonnaise, Eel Sauce, and Nori.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Good portion and nice presentation. Oh, and it’s also DELICIOUS. great balance of flavors.
Heather: Eff all the spam hater. Light. Fantastic flavor. Not spicy. Good sized portion.
Kālua Pork Slider
A small sandwich roll topped with shredded pork, sweet-and-sour DOLE pineapple chutney, and a spicy mayonnaise.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Delicious little slider. Sweet chutney is a nice mix with the spicy mayo.
Heather: Really great flavor. Tiny hint of spice. Kind of a small portion; though.
Felicia: The pork is delicious and has a great flavor. The pineapple chutney and spicy mayonnaise go well with the pork but the bun gets soggy quickly. Preferred eating it with a fork.
Passion Fruit Cheesecake
A small passion fruit cheesecake topped with toasted macadamia nuts.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Bland, but decent portion. Wish more of the flavors came through.
Heather: I can’t taste baby passion fruit! Good cheesecake. Just nothing EXTRA. DAZZLE ME, DISNEY.
Felicia: This is so good. Delicious cheesecake with fruity but not too sweet passion fruit. The macadamia nuts add a nice crunch as well. Loved this.
Allyson: As a big fan of cheesecake and macadamia nuts, I highly recommend this. It’s super creamy!
Kona Brewing Co. Hanalei Island IPA
A tropical and hoppy IPA with hints of passionfruit, orange, and guava.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Good IPA option. Light, but very hoppy.
Heather: WHYYYYYY. Prove to me that anyone likes regular old IPAs. Super hoppy. Honestly it’s ok, but many other better beer options. Only get it in case of emergency (like if you are on fire or something).
Felicia: For an IPA, this is light and refreshing with a nice tropical flavor.
Allyson: This is a nice lighter beer, but nothing spectacular.
Sparkling Pineapple Wine
A refreshing sparkling wine made with pineapple juice from Florida Orange Groves in St. Petersburg, FL.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Cute cup, but way too sweet. Don’t believe anything Heather says.
Heather: I LIKE THIS. Shannon doesn’t, but she’s just silly. Very sweet, though. This isn’t something you drink WITH a meal. No. It’s what you drink INSTEAD of a meal.
Felicia: Not a big fan of this. The pineapple is too fake and this has a funky flavor. Not my favorite.
Allyson: This is definitely tastier than your average wine and has a nice hint of pineapple. But, still, as someone who doesn’t like wine, not really my thing.
AULANI Sunrise
A tropical and refreshing cocktail made with vodka, DOLE pineapple juice, and grenadine.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Like straight fruit juice. Sweet, good portion.
Heather: Lots of Pineapple and potential. But, too sweet.
Felicia: This is a nice fruity mixed drink. I generally don’t like fruit juice based cocktails but this isn’t too sweet and has a nice pineapple flavor.
Allyson: I’m not a fan of this. It has a strange flavor and I wanted it to be more fruity than it actually is.
