The Deconstructed Dish Menu, Prices, & Review (2024 Festival of the Arts)

The Deconstructed Dish Menu, Prices, & Review (2024 Festival of the Arts)

Each year, the chefs at The Deconstructed Dish food studio get to show off their creativity. And while that is usually a good thing, we didn’t love any of the food items here this year.

We did, however, really enjoy the drinks, even if the function of the presentation isn’t great since the little capsules holding the strawberry are extremely top-heavy and fall out of the glass easily. That isn’t a problem if you only have 1 thing to carry, but if you have stuff in both hands, you might want to grab the shooter BEFORE you try to walk.

Located near Test Track, The Deconstructed Dish might be worth a stop if you’re looking for something unique to try, but unless you just want a drink (we recommend the Wicked Weed Brewing Blank Canvas Belgian Blonde Witbier and the Deconstructed Strawberry Mint Julep with Bourbon), we vote skip it.

Beverages

When it comes to our reviews and ratings, we thought it would be helpful if you had a better understanding of our personal preferences (what we like and don’t like), along with if there are any dietary restrictions.

Here’s a breakdown of not only who is doing the reviews, but a little more information about what each of us likes and doesn’t like food and drink-wise.

Shannon (Founder)

  • Likes: Almost everything
  • Dislikes: Beers that taste “stinky,” anything too salty
  • Dietary Restrictions: None

Heather (Editor)

  • Likes: Strong flavors, anything made out of potatoes, white wines, all beers (especially stouts and wheat beers), doesn’t mind sweet (plain fruit is NOT a dessert. Ever.)
  • Dislikes: Things that are too spicy, anything with a bone still in it, cocktails with too much whiskey or tequila (thanks to having too much fun in college), some red wines, most IPAs
  • Dietary Restrictions: Shellfish allergy

Felicia (Content Manager)

  • Likes: Mezcal, savory drinks, stouts/lagers/wheats/sour beers, vinegar, tart/sour items, chocolate, fresh vegetables and fruits, red meat
  • Dislikes: Ciders, sweet drinks, anything milky or creamy, chili powder, cumin, weirded out by textures, mayonnaise, saucy/wet food, cream-filled pastries, artificial fruit flavors, cooked fruits, frozen items (drinks or ice cream)
  • Dietary Restrictions: None

Photos & Reviews

Deconstructed BLT

Pork belly, onion bread pudding, watercress espuma, and tomato jam.

Deconstructed BLT photo
  • Price: $7.25
  • Special Diets: N/A
  • Rating: 2.7/5

Our Thoughts

Shannon: Visually it doesn’t appear like a BLT, but the combo of savory flavors is incredible. Nice portion. Would definitely order again.
Heather: The onion bread reminded me of Thanksgiving dressing. The pork belly had too much belly and not enough pork, and the tomato jam was just odd. I do not like this.
Felicia: The non-pork belly components are good, but the pork belly itself is so meaty and funky and not for me. I like some pork belly but this just tastes gritty and bleh.

Deconstructed Key Lime Pie

Flexible Key Lime curd, “Key Lime” mousse, graham cracker cake and meringues.
This is a Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine item.

  • Price: $6.50
  • Special Diets: N/A
  • Rating: 3.7/5

Our Thoughts

Shannon: Beautiful presentation, incredible flavor combos. Little sweet, but too much.
Heather: The textures separate were rough for me. And the flavors overpower each other so you might as well just make it the regular way, IMHO. Plus – the portion is small. So booo.
Felicia: I love key lime pie and this is a fun, tart play on it. It’s not my overall favorite, but the components are good.

Deconstructed Strawberry Mint Julep

Refreshing, non-alcoholic beverage, made with muddled limes, strawberries and mint.
Note: Also available without alcohol.

  • Price: $4.50
  • Made with alcohol? No
  • Rating: 3.0/5

Our Thoughts

Shannon: Really cute souvenir cup, slushy is refreshing. Great non-alcoholic drink option.
Heather: Although I love a good non alcoholic cocktail, these flavors really are better when there is bourbon to cut the sweet. I am not a bourbon fan, but I liked this one a lot less than the one with it.
Felicia: Super sugary but has more mint flavor than the one with bourbon had. I think this is a fun option for a non-alcoholic drink. Cute cup as well.

Wicked Weed Brewing Blank Canvas Belgian Blonde Witbier

A Belgian Blonde with 4.8% ABV.

  • Price: $5.75 (6 oz.) / $9.75 (12 oz.)
  • Made with alcohol? Yes
  • Rating: 4.0/5

Our Thoughts

Shannon: Almost never a fan of Wicked Weed beers but this is my fave of theirs. Great light taste.
Heather: It’s just okay. It’s definitely a blank canvas…there isn’t a ton of flavor.
Felicia: Delicious classic witbier. Can definitely taste the coriander, orange, and clove. A nice flavorful beer that is still relatively light.

Deconstructed Strawberry Mint Julep with Bourbon

A refreshing beverage with lime, strawberries, mint and bourbon.
Note: Also available without alcohol.

  • Price: $12.00
  • Made with alcohol? Yes
  • Rating: 4.0/5

Our Thoughts

Shannon: Slushy with very obvious bourbon flavors to balance the sweetness. Good size drink.
Heather: So fresh! Very delicious. I feel like I just brushed my teeth. I only gave it a 4 because the little shooter thing of strawberry has a questionable look AND it falls out of the glass easily.
Felicia: Too sweet for an actual julep and don’t love the strawberry, but it is bourbon forward and I like that. Would be nice on a hot day.
