The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a campground on Walt Disney World property located in the Magic Kingdom resort area. This is a good option for those who either love camping or want to try something different than a hotel.

Overview

The Fort Wilderness Campsites isn’t your typical campground, but one that ensures guests still experience that Disney magic.

From fully-equipped campsites, to pools, to golf cart rentals, to unique recreation and activities, to special dining, to unforgettable entertainment, the campsites provide all kinds of amenities. There’s even 750 acres of pine and cypress forest.

What makes the campsites even more special is that during special occasions camps will decorate (like for Halloween and Christmas). Some of them are quite impressive and elaborate!

As for the campsites, there are different types available. Keep reading for more details about the moderate resort.

Rooms And Bathrooms

When it comes to rooms and bathroom, well, that all depends what kind of camping you’re doing.

There are five different types of campsites that accommodate tents and 45-foot and longer RVs, with a maximum of 10 guests per site.

Each campsite comes with landscaping that provides privacy, water, cable television, electrical hookups, picnic table, and a charcoal grill. Most campsites also have a sewer hook-up and even permit pets. Other amenities include free WiFi and a safe deposit box (upon request).

Here are the campsites and what they accommodate:

Premium Campsite

  • Room for an RV plus a tent
  • Accommodates equipment on a concrete pad up to 10 feet by 50 feet
  • Sewage hook-up

Tent or Pop-Up Campsite

Fort Wilderness tent or pop-up campsite

  • Room for a pop-up camper or a camper van-type vehicle, and up to 2 tents
  • Accommodates equipment on a concrete pad up to 10 feet by 25 feet

Premium Meadow Campsite

Fort Wilderness premium meadow campsite

  • Room for larger style RV
  • Accommodates equipment on a concrete pad up to 18 feet by 60 feet
  • Sewage hook-up
  • Proximity to Meadow Trading Post, Meadow Recreation Area, Bike Barn, and Campfire Area

Pet-Friendly Policy

As previously mentioned, the Campsites are pet-friendly, but there are certain conditions that must be met.

First and foremost, you must keep pets on a handheld leash that is 8 feet or shorter. When not on a leash, pets must be confined inside a climate-controlled vehicle. Note: pets are not permitted in tents and pop-up campers.

Those who have pet privileges are allowed to take dogs to play at the Waggin’ Trails Dog Park, an off-leash area, or walk them on the several on-leash trails. There’s also day and overnight kennel care at Best Friends Pet Care located on property.

There is a $5 per-night pet fee for those who bring their pets to the Campsites.

Checking In And Checking Out

There are a few options for checking in and checking out when staying at the Campsites. There is a Reception Outpost, but rather than going inside to check-in, guests with RVs or tents will register at one of the drive-through windows at the Outpost.

Those staying at the Campsites can also use online check-in through the official Walt Disney World website or via the My Disney Experience app.

Fort Wilderness Cabins reception outpost

Online check-in also allows guests to request their preference of camping loop, but a request isn’t guaranteed. You can also speak with Front Desk Services. During registration, guests will be directed to their designated campsite.

Currently, guests will automatically be checked out. But, if you have unresolved charges to your hotel folio, you’ll need to visit the front desk in the Reception Outpost.

Note: Guests also have the option of to chat virtually with resort Cast Members via MDE for any assistance.

Magical Express pickup and bus transportation are out front at the Outpost Depot near the Reception Outpost. Be sure to check with the resort to see if Resort Airline Check-In and luggage storage services are available.

Parking

Parking is available at the Campsites, but it’s works a bit differently than a resort, especially since you will park at your campsite rather than in an actual parking lot.

Each campsite has one complimentary parking space for one motorized vehicle.

Complimentary standard self-parking is available for non-resort guests exploring dining, shopping, entertainment, and other experiences during the day.

We have a complete Walt Disney World parking guide you can also check out.

How to get from Fort Wilderness to anywhere at Disney World

There are two main forms of transportation available at the Campsites: Walt Disney World buses and Disney Water Transportation. Regarding the latter, water transportation will take guests to Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Depending on crowds and the time, the water taxi serves up great views of the Seven Seas Lagoon. Plus, at night, you might even pass by the Electrical Water Pageant on your way back to the campsites.

As for buses, the Outpost Depot is the main bus depot that will take guests to theme parks, water parks, Disney Resort hotels, and the Disney Springs area. There’s also a complimentary bus that will take guests from the cabins and campsites to the Settlement for dinner shows, groceries, and the beach, and to the Meadow Recreation Area for swimming, arcade games, and canoe and bike rentals.

Wanting to travel to the Frontier Wilderness campsites with our small 11 lb dog. We would get a full hook up site since we have a bathroom & air conditioning. It is a very large hi wall pop up style and it says no pop ups with dogs, but she will be in air conditioning and travels everywhere with us. Is that ok then for us to come, it is not a tent?
