The Pineapple Promenade booth is a fan-favorite and for one reason — the non-alcoholic Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade!
This menu can be overwhelming, thanks to the 2 food offerings and 8 beverage options. While the DOLE Whip items aren’t really that unique, the Spicy Hot Dog and the Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade are pretty good.
We really liked both of these last year, too. As for the Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade, it’s been been popular for many years. It’s definitely tasty on a hot day.
We also really enjoyed the pineapple beer flight and found it to be a great option for those wanting to try different types of beers.

Review Disclaimer
When it comes to our reviews and ratings, we thought it would be helpful if you had a better understanding of our personal preferences (what we like and don’t like), along with if there are any dietary restrictions.
Here’s a breakdown of not only who is doing the reviews, but a little more information about what each of us likes and doesn’t like food and drink-wise.
Shannon (Founder)
- Likes: Almost everything
- Dislikes: Beers that taste “stinky,” anything too salty
- Dietary Restrictions: None
Heather (Editor)
- Likes: Strong flavors, anything made out of potatoes, white wines, all beers (especially stouts and wheat beers), doesn’t mind sweet (plain fruit is NOT a dessert. Ever.)
- Dislikes: Things that are too spicy, anything with a bone still in it, cocktails with too much whiskey or tequila (thanks to having too much fun in college), some red wines, most IPAs
- Dietary Restrictions: Shellfish allergy
Felicia (Content Manager)
- Likes: Mezcal, savory drinks, stouts/lagers/wheats/sour beers, vinegar, tart/sour items, chocolate, fresh vegetables and fruits, red meat
- Dislikes: Ciders, sweet drinks, anything milky or creamy, chili powder, cumin, weirded out by textures, mayonnaise, saucy/wet food, cream-filled pastries, artificial fruit flavors, cooked fruits, frozen items (drinks or ice cream)
- Dietary Restrictions: None
Allyson (Managing Writer)
- Likes: Cheesecake (the more sweets, the better), anything mint, hazy IPAs and wheat beers (big beer fan), tofu and most Impossible dishes, mushrooms
- Dislikes: Wine (only likes a few dry ones), cream ales and stouts/porters, super sweet cocktails, floral flavors (lavender, rose), anything almond-flavored, things that are too spicy, olives, meat and seafood (see below)
- Dietary Restrictions: Vegetarian (personal choice)
Photos & Reviews
Spicy Hot Dog
Spicy hot dog with pineapple chutney and plantain chips.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Love the flavors and crunch. Slightly spicy.
Heather: I do like a spicy wiener. It is TOO spicy this year. Did not like the crumbled chips on top. Eww, David
Felicia: Flavors were great and liked for a hotdog. Spicier than I remember but in a good way. Lots of interesting flavors and the plantain chips make the texture a lot better.
DOLE Whip
A classic pineapple DOLE whip.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Delicious if you’re a Dole Whip fan. Melts quickly.
Heather: Will Walt turn in his grave if I give this a 3?! Come on…Dole Whips are available in lots of places. It gets a 3 just because it is “basic” for this festival.
Felicia: Just a Dole Whip. It’s good but can get it anytime so wouldn’t stop here for it.
Allyson: Just Dole Whip. Not unique at all to the festivals. Love this but not for a festival item.
Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade
The Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade is non-alcoholic and a fan-favorite.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Always popular at the festival. Pretty, refreshing, could be too sweet for some.
Heather: I know people love this but it just tastes like sugar water.
Felicia: Liked this more last year than I did this year. It’s fun, pretty, and sweet but not too bad. Easy to drink for those that like this sort of thing. Kind of a weird artificial flavor to it, though.
Allyson: Lives up to the hype. So refreshing and such good flavor. Love this.
DOLE Whip with Fanta
DOLE whip topped with pineapple Fanta and is a non-alcoholic beverage.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Delicious if you’re a Dole Whip fan. Melts quickly.
Heather: Absolutely nothing special about this.
Felicia: Just like Dole Whip. Fanta didn’t add anything to it.
Allyson: Just tastes like Dole Whip, which isn’t a unique festival item.
3 Daughters Brewing Tropical Hefe Wheat Ale
A Tropical Hefe Wheat Ale brewed by 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Note: this drink is also available in a flight.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Pretty standard ale. Nothing special.
Heather: Light and fresh. Love this one.
Felicia: Loved this one too. The wheat beer at this booth is my favorite overall but would happily get any of the beers individually. All refreshing, none too sweet.
Allyson: I love a Hefeweizen and a wheat beer but this was just ok. Not the best.
BrewDog Hazy Jane IPA
An IPA with notes of pineapple, mango, stone-fruit, and a hint of tangerine brewed by BrewDog Brewery in Scotland.
Note: this drink is also available in a flight.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Fairly standard IPA. Wouldn’t order again.
Heather: Just not digging this one. At all. Kind of skunky.
Felicia: Hoppy like an IPA is, but not overpowering. Light fruit flavor. Refreshing.
Allyson: As a Hazy IPA fan, I absolutely love this and would get it again and again.
Urban Artifact Teak Tropical American Fruit Tart
Teak Tropical American Fruit Tart is a sour style beer made with pineapple, guava, and key lime and is brewed by Urban Artifact in Cincinnati, OH.
Note: this drink is also available in a flight.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: One of the worst beers I’ve ever had. So overly tart. Blech.
Heather: Definitely sour – not something I have to have again. I don’t taste “tropical”, either.
Felicia: One of the best tarts I’ve ever had. Love the tropical flavors and it’s the perfect amount of sour. Not too sweet or thick. Love love love.
Allyson: Not a sour person and not a fan of this. Made my mouth pucker.
Playalinda Brewing Company Violet Lemonade Ale
Violet Lemonade Ale crafted by Playalinda Brewing Company in Titusville, Florida.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Such a light and refreshing drink. Not too sweet.
Heather: I gave this a 4 because it is better than just the violet lemonade.
Felicia: This is good and unique so I would recommend it for that. It’s not a repeatable beer for me but the lavender flavor is nice.
Allyson: Not the best. Didn’t like the flavor very much.
Florida Orange Groves Winery Sparkling Pineapple Wine
Sparkling pineapple wine made by Florida Orange Groves Winery in St. Petersburg, Florida. This is served by the glass or bottle.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Nope. Big fan of pineapple flavors usually but this isn’t it.
Heather: This is not my first time not liking this wine. It would probably taste better after 2-3 adult beverages.
Felicia: So gross. Sickly sweet. Funky flavor that doesn’t taste like pineapple. Don’t like it.
Allyson: Yuck. Did I say yuck? Made me gag a little.
DOLE Whip topped with Sōmrus Mango Cream Liqueur
A classic Pineapple DOLE Whip topped with Sōmrus Mango Cream Liqueur.
Our Thoughts
Shannon: Delicious if you’re a Dole Whip fan. Melts quickly.
Heather: I wish they could come up with something unique for this festival. I want them to channel their inner Chopped chef and re-use the Dole Whip in a novel way.
Felicia: Nice option with alcohol and Dole Whip. Flavors go together well.
Allyson: Where’s the alcohol? Just tastes like Dole Whip, which isn’t a unique festival item.
