Well, we finally have an opening timeline for the Princess and the Frog attraction coming to both Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park.
According to Disney, the reimagined Splash Mountain ride will open on both coasts sometime in late 2024. It’s unclear when Splash Mountain will close for the refurbishment.
Of course, that’s not an official opening date, but at least we have a general idea of when to expect the retheming of the ride!
And, if that isn’t exciting enough — we have a name! The attraction will be called “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.”

Disney shared the updates at the 2022 ESSENCE Festival of Culture on Friday, July 1.
Opening date news was first teased by Anika Noni Rose, who voices Tiana in The Princess and the Frog.
She announced in the June 2 episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan that Disney planned to open the updated boat ride in 2024.
At the time, Disney released a statement, which read in part, “While timing has not been determined, we look forward to sharing more details during Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans in July.”

The reimagining of Splash Mountain was first announced in June 2020.
But, Disney Imagineeers have been working on the new and improved water ride since 2019.
The attraction will pick up after the end of the 2009 movie, meaning guests will get to see Princess Tiana in human form rather than as a frog.
The ride will follow Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance. There will also be music from the movie.
As Disney noted alongside its major announcement in 2020, “The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.”

In August 2021, Disney also released new concept art teasing the Princess and the Frog ride, which you can see above.
The new concept art teases some of the new characters that will be part of the ride.
Plus, Disney is also approaching audio-animatronic figures for this ride by looking at how they can advance storytelling. The same for scenic illusions and visual effects.
Stay tuned for an official opening date, which we will share as soon as Disney does.
