Splash Mountain Reportedly Closing in May 2023 at Disneyland Park

We might finally have a closing date for Splash Mountain at Disneyland Park.

According to a March 26 report from the Orange County Register, Splash Mountain at Disneyland will permanently close on May 7, 2023.

This means the water ride’s final day of operation would be May 6, 2023. Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom in Disney World closed on January 23, 2023.

The purpose of the ride’s closure is to make way for the Princess and the Frog re-theme — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The reimagined water ride is set to open sometime in 2024 at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom in Disney World.

The updated attraction will follow Princess Tiana and Louis who are preparing to host a Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans.

You’ll travel through the bayou meeting Tiana’s friends, which include a band full of adorable new critters, like an otter, a rabbit, a raccoon, a beaver, a turtle and others.

There will also be zydeco music, a special Louisiana-born blend of rhythm and blues.

As Disney previously explained, “Like so many musical genres, zydeco brings together the sounds and styles of many cultures. We wanted that spirit reflected in this scene (and throughout the attraction) so that all our guests feel welcome to join in the celebration.”

The ride’s storyline takes place after Princess and the Frog, meaning guests will see Tiana in human form and not as a frog.

Tiana’s Palace is also coming later this year to New Orleans Square at Disneyland Park.

This is a Quick Service restaurant and not a character dining location. French Market Restaurant closed on February 17, 2023 to make way for Tiana’s Palace. Mint Julep Bar is also temporarily closed due to the refurbishment, but will reopen alongside Tiana’s Palace later in the year.

We’ll keep you in the loop as more details are announced, including an official opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at both Disney World and Disneyland.
