On Thursday, April 20, Disney World and Disney Vacation Club announced proposed plans to bring refreshed cabin hideaways to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
What does this mean? Well, right now, the plan is for “more than 350 new cabins to replace the existing cabins at the resort.”
You read that right.
According to the release shared by Disney, “the proposed cabins would be built with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.”
You can see concept art here:
Disney also noted, “Each proposed, stand-alone cabin offers spacious accommodations, sleeping up to six adults, and features a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and private patio. A select number of cabins are also expected to be dog-friendly.”
Like with all DVC resorts, these proposed cabins will be open for reservations to all guests, including those who are not Disney Vacation Club Members, based on availability.
The overhaul of the cabins is part of a group of improvement projects underway at Fort Wilderness that are said to “enhance the guest experience.”
For example, on April 17, 2023, Disney confirmed that the Trail’s End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness is now closed.
It will reopen this summer as a marketplace concept with expanded Quick Service options. The Table Service option will no longer be offered.
Disney also teased that there is “more exciting news to come.”
Know that Campsite accommodations will also continue to be available for guests.
The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort is projected to open in 2024.
Additional information regarding project details, the start of sales, and rental bookings will be released at a later date.

Terrible. Just one more thing not to like about woke Disney. I guess I will spend my time/money at universal. Goodby Disney.

This is certainly depressing, the cabins were a great value for staying at the campground. Based on the latest DVC offeerings its going to be impossible to book for DVC and then be too expensive to book for cash.

I don’t like this! Also don’t like in regular DVC locations many DVC accommodations are not available to book with points but non DVC can pay cash so Disney is making money on them. Moving cabins to DVC is unfair to other guests.

We are booked to stay in one of the cabins for two nights in September for our first trip to Disney World! We love the more retro look of the current cabins. I hope this doesn’t impact our stay too much!

This is horrible news. The cabins were perfect before this idea. Once they are DVC they will be nearly impossible for regular guests to book them. We loved staying at the cabins, one of our very favorite options. Now, just like all the many other DVC resorts we won't be able to stay here again due to lack of availability and I'm sure a hefty price increase for the stay. Sad really, R.I.P. to the cabins you will be missed by our family and many more.
