Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Opens January 2023 at Disneyland, Plus More Disney100 Celebration Details

All aboard! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railways has an opening date at Disneyland Park. The trackless ride is set to finally open on January 27, 2023 in Mickey’s ToonTown.

We’ve been *patiently* waiting to hear when this ride would make its debut at the happiest place on earth, especially after enjoying it so much at Walt Disney World.

Runaway Railway already exists at Hollywood Studios in Disney World. It opened on March 4, 2020.

It’s also important to note that just because Runaway Railway is opening in January doesn’t mean all of ToonTown is.

Disneyland made it clear that the rest of Toontown will remain closed as its revamp continues. The land is slated to reopen for guests in spring 2023.

Not only is Disneyland’s version set to open at the end of January 2023, but it’s on a very special date. January 27 is the same date the Disney100 anniversary celebration kicks off at Disneyland.

Here is everything else that is coming to Disneyland for Disney100, as announced by the Disney Parks Blog on Thursday, October 6.

New Platinum Decor and Looks

Mickey, Minnie, and friends are getting new sparkling looks. Plus, there will be special platinum-infused decor.

Treats and Merchandise

Of course, a celebration at Disney wouldn’t be the same without special food and beverage offerings, merchandise, and more.

A Castle Transformation

If that isn’t exciting enough, Sleeping Beauty Castle will be adorned with platinum banners and bunting and accented by a cabochon featuring the three Gold Fairies.

Plus, there will be 2 fountains on either side of the castle’s moat and a wishing star placed on top of the tower.

New Nighttime Spectaculars

As previously announced at the 2022 D23 Expo, “World of Color – One” at Disney California Adventure and “Wondrous Journeys” at Disneyland Park are 2 new nighttime spectaculars debuting for the Disney100 anniversary celebration.

“World of Color – One” celebrates the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney. It tells the new story of how a single action, like a drop of water, creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change.

You’ll get to see some of “the most courageous, loving and inspiring characters” brought to life in new ways. There will even be a new original song, “Start a Wave.”

“Wondrous Journeys” is said to “ignite the wonder in all of us.”

There will be nods to every Walt Disney Animation Studios film to date. Projections will be showcased on Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, U.S.A., the façade of “it’s a small world,” and the Rivers of America.

On select nights, the nighttime spectacular will also see the addition of fireworks. This spectacular will also feature a new song, “It’s Wondrous.”

For those wondering, Magic Happens is still set to return in spring 2023, but an official date hasn’t been revealed yet.

Alongside all of this news, Disneyland also noted the following: “As you begin to plan your trip to visit Disneyland Resort for the Disney100 anniversary, please know that theme park reservation availability for Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park is currently paused for dates beyond Jan. 8, 2023, and will resume for guests in the coming weeks.”

We will update you as we learn more about the Disney100 anniversary celebration and if anything changes regarding park reservations.
