Hollywood Studios Is Pausing Rise of the Resistance’s Virtual Queue

Talk about breaking news — and a major change to getting in line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios.

On Sept. 16, Disney announced that the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance will be paused starting Sept. 23, 2021. This also means that a traditional standby queue will be used.

This will also be the first time a standby line will be used for Rise of the Resistance since the attraction opened in 2019 at Hollywood Studios.

Disney noted that the virtual queue could return to Rise of the Resistance at a later date or even “from time to time.” We’ll, of course, keep you updated regarding this detail.

And keep in mind that a virtual queue will still be used for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure when it opens on Oct. 1 in Epcot’s France pavilion.

This big update to Rise of the Resistance’s virtual queue comes almost a month after the Disney Genie+ news dropped.

If you haven’t heard, both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will now use a paid FastPass system called Genie+. You can read more about that here.

With this Genie+ news, Disney initially announced that the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance wasn’t going anywhere. They also revealed they would offer paid individual Lighting Lane (the new name for FastPass lines) options for this attraction.

The latter remains, meaning that in addition to a free standby queue starting Sept. 23, guests will have the ability to purchase entry via the a la carte Lightning Lane option.

These are individual Lightning Lane attractions selections are not included with Genie+. They are sold separately and will be pay-per-use.

Pricing for paid individual Lightning Lane options hasn’t been revealed.

At this time, the virtual queue process remains at Disneyland for both Rise of the Resistance and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.
