In recent years, Disney World has expanded the number of premium events available for guests to add to their visit, and while we try to emphasize to readers that you don't have to spend anything extra to have a fantastic (and memorable!) vacation, every now and then one comes along that we think might be worth it for some guests.

The Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party is one of those events.

Check out the information below to learn more about this event and see if it sounds like a good fit for your family.

Summary

The may have arguably the best desserts and drinks of all the dessert parties. It also provides a special viewing area for the show that isn’t as good as it used to be, but does keep you from having to find a spot way head of time.

What is it and where is it located?

The Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert party is a premium event offered at Hollywood Studios on the same nights that the fireworks are held. Guests are first treated to a Star Wars-themed dessert party inside of Star Wars Launch Bay before being escorted outside to view the show from a roped-off area at one of the best viewing locations in the park.

What can I expect to be served?

Playing off of the Star Wars theme, guests are treated to a fairly broad and tasty selection of galactic-titled food, including a couple different cupcakes (there's a BB-8 lemon-flavored option, and a Darth Vader chocolate-peanut butter flavored one), an amazing freeze-fried Nutella truffle, several flavors of cookies, a delicious warm bread pudding complete with a selection of toppings, and a sampling of fruits and cheeses.

There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options available.

In addition to water and soft drinks, guests that prefer non-alcoholic options also have 2 punch-type beverages from which to choose: Lunar Lemonade (a watermelon-flavored lemonade) and Jettison Juice (passion orange guava juice with mango syrup).

There are also 3 specialty alcoholic beverage options: Galactic Punch, Cosmic Citrus Twist, and Light Speed Margarita. All 3 of the drinks are served at a bar and are included in the price of your ticket. Bartenders do accept tips.

This party has assigned tables with chairs for guests. This is a huge perk. One of the downsides of this party previously was that there were no seats but this has since changed.

How do you book it?

You can book the party online, and while Disney says you can book up to 180 days in advance, it frequently isn't available until later. If you don't see it open, keep checking!

How much does it cost and what does that include?

The cost for this party is $79 for adults and $45 for children ages 3-9. Included in that cost are all of your desserts and drinks, a reserved viewing area for the fireworks, a commemorative lanyard, and a novelty Star Wars souvenir item.

How does check-in work?

Guests with tickets to the dessert party check-in in front of Star Wars Launch Bay. Your ticket and confirmation information will give you a check-in time; however, it is recommended you check-in 30-45 minutes before your time as guests will be allowed in early.

Star Wars Dessert Party check in

Once checked in, guests receive their lanyard and are allowed into a special roped-off area of Launch Bay. Star Wars Launch Bay remains open during the party; however, only party guests can move back and forth between the roped-off area, exhibits, and character meets of the Launch Bay.

How is the view for fireworks?

About 15 or so minutes before the fireworks start, Cast Members will begin escorting Dessert Party guests out to the reserved viewing area. As you enter the viewing area you will be handed your souvenir mug.

Is the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party worth it?

It is for some people. Part of the value of this event comes from the alcoholic cocktails, so if you have a large portion of your party that won't be consuming any alcohol you may not get as much bang for your buck.

But if you are a Star Wars fan (or even just a fireworks fan!) and you are looking for some good food, a couple cocktails and a good view for a nighttime show, then this is the best option of the 3 Disney World dessert parties and will likely be worth it for you.

I read on the Disney website that seating was ‘banquet style’, where you would be seated with other guests. is this new?

  3. Lisa February 12, 2018 Reply

Are the Jawas still roaming around the dessert party?
    That was the best part.

  4. Edward Zigmond December 27, 2017 Reply

Are there any nearby places you recommend to have dinner before the desert party starts?
    Thanks for all you do!

Would there be enough time to make the 7pm Fantasmic showing and then to this at 830?

    • Shannon Albert September 19, 2017

Yeah, if the schedule is 7 and 8:30, you’ll be able to do that without a problem.

    • Heather M September 19, 2017

What about attempting to make the Jingle Bell jingle jam at 6pm? Is that too ambitious 🙂

  7. Erin September 15, 2017 Reply

In my opinion this event is not worth it. Most of the desserts are all right and over sweet. This is coming from someone who has a sweet tooth. On top of that the Chewbacca mug is cheap. In all, it’s great to have the area set aside for the fireworks show, but in my opinion they need better desserts especially for being Disney and also for the price that you will pay

Thanks for the great review! Would you please tell me if it is it possible to get just a shot of alcohol with water/and or diet soda?

I’ve been low-carbing it, have lost 42 pounds, and while I can eat the cheese and a tiny bit of the fruit, I don’t want to load up on all the sugar in the drink mixers. I’d still like a drink. (We are really going for the fireworks show viewing location.)

    • Shannon Albert July 31, 2017

I don’t know for sure, but I bet they would do that without a problem. When you walk up to the bar, they just ask what you want and you can let them know that you’d like a shot rather than the whole drink. Water and diet soda are available at a table nearby.

  9. Samantha L. June 20, 2017 Reply

I assume the fireworks dessert parties are only available on the nights the fireworks shows are scheduled, right? I know that sounds like a stupid questions but I have a horrible nightmare of shelling out hundreds and then being given a cookie and told there isn’t any show!

    • Shannon Albert June 20, 2017

Haha. You can’t book the dessert party unless the fireworks are scheduled for that night. 🙂

I just got back from a five night stay at Coronado Springs and had the best time! Even though I went during the busy season I barely waited in any lines and was able to do everything I wanted!

Instagram post 2195165576133294818_547098091 How to tour Hollywood Studios with an 8 a.m. scheduled opening:
✨
1.) Arrive by 6 a.m. if you want the shortest standby waits and Rise of the Resistance boarding group with a low number.

Buses and Minnie Vans are NOT operating early enough to get you there by 6 a.m., so you would need to have your own car, Lyft, or walk to get there by 6.

Have little ones? Uber Car Seat is an option as well.

Arriving a bit later will likely still be ok, but increase your wait times and boarding group number slightly.

2.) The park is likely to open way before the scheduled 8 a.m. time. The opening time was 6:26 a.m. for us this morning.

Once open, you’ll scan your MagicBand/park ticket to enter, and then immediately open the app to snag a boarding group.

Scroll through the pics for info on how to get a boarding group.

3.) After getting a boarding group, it’s time to start riding rides. This order should allow you the shortest standby times:

First hour: Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, Toy Story Mania

Second hour: Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror (could also do Star Tours if you like)

Third hour: Smugglers Run and hope that your Rise of the Resistance boarding group has been called so you can head there next (higher boarding group number? you can leave the park and come back when you’re called if you’d like).
✨
Of course, if you have a FastPass for a ride, you may want to skip that attraction (or ride it in the standby line and again later with FastPass).
✨
Keep in mind that characters and most dining won’t begin until park opening, so you’ll want to hit those after 8 a.m.

Hopefully that helps those of you traveling over the next few weeks. What questions do you have? 📲Click the ribbon to save this post for future reference.

Instagram post 2193115991424601780_547098091 Here’s a recap of what we’ve learned about Hollywood Studios w/Rise of the Resistance so far:

1.) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. This week it’s 6 a.m. (like today), and next week is likely to be 7:30.

After that, we don’t know, but Flight of Passage has been available early for 2+ years, so it might continue for awhile (or not).
.
🚌 Transportation: buses will be running that early, but Skyliner won’t. It didn’t start until 8:00 today.

2.) 𝙎𝙣𝙖𝙜 𝙖 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠. ALL members of your party must be in the park to get a boarding group.

All groups were full by 8 a.m. today (an hour before official park opening!). Get there early to ride.

According to sources, this virtual queue system will be in place for at least the next several weeks before Disney moves to using the FastPass system.

3.) 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 (we were told “morning”), but there is no guarantee, especially as the ride goes down often.

Our group ended up being called at 12:52.

Once called, you have 2 hrs to return. No need to stay in the park. You can leave, get the notification, then return to Studios.

4.) 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 which allowed us to go on all Toy Story Land rides, Rock n Roller Coaster, & Tower of Terror in 90 minutes w/no waits. No characters available during this time.

5.) 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝 & 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 at Rise, but everybody must have a boarding group.

Since everybody will be in a boarding group, we aren’t sure we see the value of Rider Switch for most, but it won’t hurt to snag it JUST in case.

However, if the 1st members of your party enter toward the end of your boarding window, you will definitely want to snag a Rider Switch pass for the 2nd group to use.

DAS varies in how it’s handled. Participants should inquire at the ride.
✨
WHEW. That’s a lot to take in.

What questions do you have? #waltdisneyworld
Instagram post 2192428562363229697_547098091 Moved over to the Boardwalk Inn today where it’s looking as gorgeous as ever with Christmas decor everywhere you look. 😍
✨
(You know how Epcot looks its best during Flower and Garden Festival and it’s a tough transition to see the park without all the extras? So many resorts are like that with Christmas decor.)
✨
Lots more on my stories as we explore the hotel and Boardwalk area.
Instagram post 2191647241818984579_547098091 Hello from Galaxy’s Edge where we’ve been able to ride Rise of the Resistance multiple times (and we know what a privilege that is!).
✨
It is indeed an incredible new attraction and will be the star of Galaxy’s Edge. Answering questions about it in my Stories so feel free to follow along and ask us anything you want to know.
