2 year anniversary!

twoyearanniversarysquareimageToday is the official 2 year anniversary of this website. I can't believe it. It was a goal of mine for so long (listen to to the last podcast episode for more on that) and I can barely even remember life before this site existed.

Today, I've got a look at the last year and some thoughts on what's coming next.

Let's dive in...

Some stats

Last year on the 1 year anniversary of the site, I was celebrating the fact that the website had just passed a million page views in a year. Nowadays, this website gets more than a million page views every 2 months (!!!!!!).

Here's what the growth pattern has looked like over the past 2 years.

The most popular posts from the last year

5. A toddler-centered Disney World trip plan
Recently updated to reflect changes at Disney World, this all-inclusive trip plan includes tips on where to stay, how to tour and suggestions for places to eat.

4. A peek inside my Disney World binder with 100+ free downloads
Ahhh, the binder post that brings in my fellow organization-crazed people. This post could use an update with new links (adding that to my To Do List right now) but continues to be popular.

packinglistheader3. The Ultimate Disney World packing list
I've used a version of this packing list for the last 10 years and I just recently updated it to include new things like MagicBands and an external battery charger.

2. About the Disney Dining Plan and how to get it for free
By far the most popular topic for people to search on Google and email me about, this post has an overview of Free Dining. I think my newer post about maximizing Disney Dining Plan credits is an even better resource now.

1. The pros and cons of all Disney World resorts
And the most popular post on the whole site by far is this post which I've continued to add information to (such as bed size and links to the views from every room).

Lots of new things in the last year

One of the reasons the growth has really accelerated is that I quit my full-time corporate job and immediately launched into creating some new things.

Here's a timeline:

  • June 2013 - quit corporate job
  • July 2013 - wrote and launched the eBook
  • August 2013 - launched the podcast
  • September 2013 - created the monthly dashboards
  • October 2013 - February 2014 - worked with my friend Casey to launch DLRPrepSchool.com for Disneyland planning info
  • March 2014 - now - been working on launching something new that will be my biggest, most ambitious project yet

What's coming for the next year

I'm currently planning on 2 big projects for the next year:

  • The project I mentioned above which is big and ambitious and I'm super excited and anxious about it. I'm hoping to launch it this summer.
  • DCLPrepSchool.com - a site to help people plan Disney cruises

How you can help support WDWPrepSchool.com

I'm so, so fortunate to have the nicest, most generous readers ever and many ask me repeatedly how to show their support. Some have gone so far as to click on all the ads and purchase multiple copies of the eBook.

Unfortunately, clicking all of the ads could actually get me into some trouble so here are some ways that will help.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I appreciate you all so much and could never have anticipated what an amazing, crazy ride this would be. I'm SO excited about this next year and can't wait to show you all what I've been working on.

Do you have ideas or thoughts for me? I'd love to hear them in the comments.

Congratulations Shannon. I don’t know when I started following you, but I think it was soon after you started the site.

As far as future posts are concerned, could you do one on off-site hotels or would that be a conflict of interest. Just wondering because I don’t think we will ever stay onsite.

Congatulations from Holland! I found your site at the beginning of 2014 and since then, I’ve been checking it out almost every day! There are so many posts that I still haven’t read all of them! I LOVE your ultimate packing list. It’s my favourite!! I’m now planning on a WDW trip and OMG, I never knew that planning a WDW trip can be so much work, especially from over the world, and there’s so much information! Thank you so much for creating this website! As we say over here:
Lang leve wdwprepschool.com! Op nog vele jaren!

Andy May 17, 2014 at 3:34 pm

Love the website!! Only suggestion would be to add dates to your posts (please!).

Anne May 30, 2014 at 12:38 pm

I agree with Andy – adding dates at the top of each post is the ONLY suggestion for improvement. Love your site, Shannon!

Wendy May 15, 2014 at 2:39 pm

Congrats, I love the podcast and website. The information and advice you provide is so helpful while planning my birthday and my daughters first trip to Disney World this Sept.

Susan May 14, 2014 at 8:02 pm

Congratulations! Whenever I travel somewhere, I do a ton of research so I don’t have unhappy surprises when I get to my destination. Your site was an integral part of my hugely successful first trip to wdw last year. I appreciate how you responded to my Facebook messages when I had additional questions. Thank you!!!

Ryan @ Savers4Life May 14, 2014 at 1:40 pm

Congrats on how well the site is doing. Your site/podcast are 1 of 2 I follow and are the best IMHO.

I also commend you for taking that leap and quit the corporate job. That’s a hard one and something I wonder about as we have many side venture and I wonder where I could take them if I didn’t have “Day Job”.

Shannon, I am so so happy for you! I am so glad that you built this website, because without it, I don’t think any of your viewers would be where they are today, and neither would you!

I hope you have more years to come!

Always remember, Wishes come true, and it is true,

Congratulations on your amazing accomplishments and happy anniversary! I’m so very glad that I found your website, (via Pinterest), and have learned so much from you. I love helping my friends plan their WDW trips and you make it so easy. I send them links to your website all the time. I really enjoy keeping up with your posts and I’m looking forward to planning our next Disney trip with your help! Keep up the good work.

Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary! You get to live your dream, and that dream helps so many people plan a dream trip for their family. I look forward to the podcasts every week and the emails as well. I can’t wait to hear about your new endeavor you plan to launch this summer!

Diane May 13, 2014 at 4:15 pm

Congrats on the anniversary. You’ve put together so much outstanding information, I can’t believe it’s just been 2 years. Your site helped us so much when we planned our last WDW trip. Keep up the great work!

Lyn Maszk May 13, 2014 at 1:03 pm

Stumbling onto your site has had such a HUGE influence on my Disney plans!

I’m excited about what’s next for you, and secretly hoping and wishing for what this “project” you speak of could be :).

Planning my first Disney cruise for June 2015, so glad to hear you’re branching out with your prep schools!

Amy May 13, 2014 at 12:27 pm

Hi Amy,
I am an Amy from MI as well!

Carl May 13, 2014 at 11:48 am

Congrats Shannon! We love your website, FB page, and Twitter page. We are also looking forward to what you have to say about the Disney Cruise! Keep up the fantastic work!

Cynthia May 13, 2014 at 11:18 am

Happy Anniversary! I absolutely love your site. It’s easy to read and the information is relevant. The podcast is my fave, with two toddlers I don’t always have the time to sit down in the computer and read blogs; but I love to listening to your podcast while doing house chores.

PS. If you are staying in Fajardo (near El Yunque) you should visit the bioluminescent bay, you can kayak and sometimes swim. They are best viewed on the darkest nights when there is little to no visible moon in the sky. It’s a great experience!

Shannon Albert May 13, 2014 at 11:52 am

We are! :)

Cynthia May 13, 2014 at 2:40 pm

Apparently is a bad week, full moon tomorrow. :( http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/biobay-and-moon/

Anyway you are also “near” the most beautiful beach of PR, Flamenco. (it makes #2 in the Caribbean on Tripadvisor) Being located in the Culebra island-municipality, it requires sea transportation to get there. The public transportation is messy and slow. Once in Culebra you can get a taxi to Flamenc0, where you can camp if you wish to. It is a pain to get there but well worth it.
Be aware that everything is more expensive/limited in the island as everything needs to be imported from the main island (PR).
You just made me homesick. Enjoy your trip!

Heather May 13, 2014 at 10:44 am

Shannon! Congrats on the success of your site. I read your site weekly and look forward to the updates via Pinterest and Facebook as well. You have a wonderful bubbly personality that shines through. I appreciate the fact that you give honest reviews of Disney. Best of luck on the next 20 years!

Mel Baines May 13, 2014 at 9:11 am

A million congratulations! Your sparkling wit and personality and the breadth of information on your website from the invaluable to the just plain geeky never fails to put a big smile on my face… you and your site are definitely two of the coolest things about planning a Disney vacation. Our next Disney holiday will be in February this year and already I have my wee binder with all of your wonderful insights ready to go. You are an absolute credit to Disney and an inspiration to mums everywhere who may be trying to build up the courage to ditch the day job and take on something new that inspires them.

Here’s to many anniversaries to come!

Mel from Scotland

You’re a Disney Rock Star to me, and I’m your biggest fan!!! I read everything you put out and tell everyone I know about your site! Thank you very much for all the information! I am heading back to Disney World for my family’s second trip and I couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you! Thank you!!

Amanda W May 13, 2014 at 8:29 am

Congratulations Shannon! I have been following you since I started planning our first ever Disney trip which starts in 26 days! I have learned so much from your site , and thank you for always answering emails even though I know you must be swamped with them. Enjoy your trip and can’t wait to hear about it .

jill May 13, 2014 at 8:24 am

Congratulations on two years! I know this is sort of counter-intuitive, but it would be really awesome if you could include your podcast content in written form. I often read your site while my kids are around and/or napping, and we aren’t telling them about our next trip yet. So I can never actually listen to your podcasts and I feel like I miss out on a lot of good information that way.

Michele May 13, 2014 at 8:16 am

Congratulations Shannon! While I’m a follower of the snarky boy- I do enjoy what you offer and what you’ve created! Enjoy your upcoming trip!

Kevin May 13, 2014 at 8:11 am

Congratulations. I love this site and I’m glad you’ve had so much success

Susan K May 13, 2014 at 8:01 am

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary! Although I only “found” your site about 3 months ago, the wealth of knowledge I’ve gained from your posts and podcasts in that short time has been more than I could’ve imagined! Thank you for your willingness to share so much great information, both via mass media channels as well as personal emails. I truly consider you and this site the MAJOR component of our Disney vacations and look forward to traveling with you for many years to come! Enjoy your time in Puerto Rico and your trip to Disney! :)

Annie May 13, 2014 at 6:31 am

Reading your posts just make me happy!!! They are informative, easy to read and understand, thorough and thoughtful. Planning Disney vacations for 6-plus months and checking in with your websit often is actually one of my favorite parts of the vacation-thank you a million!

Kellie May 13, 2014 at 5:55 am

Happy Anniversary!!! You are my Disney planning Idol!!! There aren’t many planning sites out there that I feel like I can still learn something from. Your organization skills, attention to detail, and what I like to call “Circle of Planning Perfection” are what keeps me coming back. Your are so talented, thank you for everything you do :)

Amy M May 13, 2014 at 5:45 am

Congrats on your two year anniversary. Your success is due to your passion for your subject -helping people! I would have had a panic attack planning our trip without your site. Looking forward to DCLPrepSchool. Enjoy your day in PR. CANNOT WAIT for your trip posts this weekend.

WDW May 13, 2014 at 4:18 am

Awesome! Congratulations on the second anniversary! I am very certain that you have made many families have excellent and memorable trips through your informative posts and dedication to answer questions. Fantastic job so far, can’t wait to see what your next project is going to be! Pretty sure it’s going to be really cool though! :) Keep up the great work, Shannon. You are doing a lovely job at this, and I hope you are enjoying it so far! Really looking forward to our trip in the fall, let’s see how all the planning will turn out, but the bottom rule is — Always have fun! :) Again, thank you for creating so many wonderful experiences at WDW for so many people :)
